A $4 billion flagship observatory lifted off the Florida Space Coast on a Falcon Heavy and is now on its way to a parking spot beyond the Moon. Its survey camera takes in a patch of sky about a hundred times wider than Hubble's, and over its mission it is expected to catalogue something like twenty billion stars — the largest inventory of the universe anyone has ever attempted.
Most telescope hats show a brass spyglass on a tripod. This one shows the actual machine: barrel, sunshade, solar wings, cut to its own outline.
