On August 31 a 91-year-old hiker stood on top of Mount Katahdin in Maine and became the oldest person ever to walk the full 2,190-mile route north. It took him 359 days. He fell 71 times along the way, once about 600 feet from the summit, and got up each time.
He had held the record once before, at 82, and went back for it. The patch is the ridgeline he finished on, cut to its own outline.
