Port Clinton sits where the Portage River empties into Lake Erie, and it has never been shy about what it is known for: the town calls itself the walleye capital of the world, and drops a giant fiberglass one at midnight every New Year's Eve. The first weekend of September the waterfront fills up for a lakeside weekend of perch, peaches, pierogi and polka.
An hour west of Cleveland, and worth the drive for the fish alone.
